Matthew Perry was a famous American actor known for his role as Chandler Bing in the popular TV show Friends. He was born on 19 August 1969 in Williamstown, Massachusetts and grew up in Canada before moving to the United States. Perry became famous as Chandler one of the most loved characters of Friends. The show Friends, aired from 1994 to 2004 was a huge success globally and Perry’s role made him a star. Apart from Friends, Perry appeared in several films, such as “The Whole Nine Yards” and “Fools Rush In”.
He also starred in other TV shows like Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. However, Perry’s life wasn’t always easy. He struggled with addiction to drugs and alcohol for many years, which he openly discussed in interviews. Despite these challenges, he continued to work in the entertainment industry and became an advocate for addiction recovery.

Matthew Perry Death Investigation
US prosecutors of a case have said that they tracked a nearly-year-long operation to expose a ketamine-selling syndicate, with cover-up attempts and another death reported. This investigation has led to five arrests among them medical doctors, Perry’s assistant and a prominent suspected dealer who is referred to as the “Ketamine Queen.“
Kenneth Iwamasa, Perry’s hired caregiver who lived with him, took a plea deal and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine that led to death. Besides that, both Eric Fleming and Dr Mark Chavez also plead guilty to the count of conspiracy to distribute drugs which is unlawful. Singer Miguel P. triturates records for providing ketamine to Perry his friend Dr Salvador Plasencia is also charged with falsification of records Alleged dealer known as the ‘Ketamine Queen’ Jasveen Sangha is charged with nine counts: conspiracy to distribute ketamine and distribution resulting from the death. The two accused persons, namely Dr Plasencia and Ms Sangha, have both entered a not-guilty plea.
The authorities state that Sangha provided the lethal substances that contributed to Perry’s death on 28 October 2023. They claimed that she supplied 50 vials of ketamine to Perry for about $11,000 (£8,550) and a prosecutor labelled her as a drug trafficker who understood that the said ketamine could be fatal. During a news conference, Martin Estrada, a US attorney for the California Central District, described Sangha’s North Hollywood house as a “drug-selling palace,” which contained over 80 vials of ketamine, as well as thousands of pills, including methamphetamine, cocaine, and Xanax.
The pistol was also recovered at the same compound which was listed as the ‘Sangha Stash House’ in the indictment where it is accused that she was packaging and distributing the narcotics targeting high-profile customers.
Matthew Perry Death Arrest
The indictment indicates that Sangha “only deals with high-end and celebs.” At the news conference, Mr Estrada suggested that Sangha was a “major source of supply for ketamine” to both Perry and others. As Perry’s addiction worsened, he sought more ketamine at lower prices, leading him to deal with street-level dealers as well as elite suppliers. Mr Estrada alleged that those charged in the case exploited Perry. In one text message, Dr Plasencia reportedly wrote, “I wonder how much this moron will pay?” In another Perry’s account, he wanted to be Perry’s ‘man for drugs. ‘ It is alleged that Perry bought about $2000 worth of vials of ketamine while the generic price for about four vials was $50.”
Prosecutors state that Perry purchased 20 vials of ketamine from Dr Plasencia for a total of $55,000 between September and October 2023. Dr Plasencia is also accused of teaching Iwamasa, the assistant, how to inject the drug, despite knowing that Perry’s ketamine addiction was spiralling out of control. Investigators allege that the doctor provided more ketamine even after witnessing Perry “freeze up” while administering the drug on one occasion.
Iwamasa, who found Perry dead, is also believed to have been the one who injected Perry with the fatal dose of ketamine. According to court documents, Iwamasa had no medical training and knew little, if anything, about administering controlled substances. Prosecutors allege that in the four days leading up to and including Perry’s death, Iwamasa administered more than 20 shots of ketamine, including three on the day the actor died. He was charged in July with one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine resulting in death and serious bodily injury, to which he has since pled guilty.
How did Matthew Perry Die
Ketamine is intended to be administered only by a physician, and patients taking the drug should be monitored by a professional due to its potentially harmful effects. On 10 October, weeks before Perry’s death, Dr Plasencia is alleged to have purchased 10 vials of ketamine from accused co-conspirator Dr Mark Chavez, with the intention of selling them to Perry. Authorities claim that Dr Plasencia then met Perry and Iwamasa in a public parking lot, where he injected the actor while they were inside a vehicle.
Two days later, he allegedly administered a large dose at Perry’s home, causing the actor to “freeze up” and his blood pressure to spike. Dr Plasencia reportedly told Iwamasa something along the lines of, “Let’s not do that again,” but he still left additional vials with Iwamasa. Perry had not hidden his alcohol problem and was almost always linked to substance and alcohol abuse.
In his 2022 memoir, he described decades of battling alcohol and drugs, including an incident where his co-star Jennifer Aniston confronted him about smelling alcohol on his breath. He wrote about the millions he had spent trying to remain sober and expressed hope that his openness would help others facing similar struggles. The homepage of the Matthew Perry Foundation, established after his death, features his quote: “When I die, I want to help others to be the first thing that’s mentioned.”
Anne Milgram, the head of the federal Drug Enforcement Agency, said that the arrests and public details of this high-profile case are likely to help others and prevent deaths, just as Perry had hoped.
