This took the match into a very tense one-arrow shoot-off and Grinham stood tall and shot an arrow that would help her win the bronze medal.
Unable to contain herself as she won the match, Grinham bent over after the victory and then hugged Paterson Pine. Aune and Sjovan are childhood friends, which have been training together since 2014 as archers for the national team of Norway. “I was aware that I required a 10 to place any pressure on her for a two-game lead,” Grinham said after the match. “Sometimes it is good and sometimes not and it is just a bummer when it is your teammate, but we both know it is sports.”

She opted to tie her quiver even lower around her waist to accommodate for the growing size of her tummy and gave up heels for flats as the sport requires absolute focus.
Nevertheless, the greatest obstacle, which Grinham had to overcome during shooting, was feeling herself pregnant. Her baby, who has been quite mobile, kicked vigorously at certain points during key races. “I think the baby has not stopped moving,” Grinham remarked before bursting into laughter. Of course it’s like the baby’s asking, ‘What are you doing?’ It’s been a real honour to know that the baby is there, my little support bubble”.
This made Grinham apprehensive, fearing that movements from the baby could interfere with her performance, especially during the full draw. In preparation for this she and her coach underwent ‘pregnancy prep training’ where they trained for months simulating the baby movements to way lay her concentration on the shot. Before a shot, Grinham even spoke aloud to her baby, “Mummy loves you, I’ll cuddle you in a minute” then proceeded with her movement.
This made the situation even more sad because Grinham is now at the same stage of pregnancy as it was when she went into premature labour with her first born son, Christian, who is now two years old. However, she was adamant to ensure that women could compete at the highest levels when pregnant as long as they sought the right medical attention and support.
“They are not treated as pariahs,” Grinham said. “The stereotype of things is completely irrelevant. If you believe you can, you can. If the doctor permits it, do it. ”
Paralympic Archery athletes competing while pregnant
The discipline of archery has been included in the Paralympic Games since the first event in Rome in 1960, however Gallic rooftops of Paris provided a dramatic background at the 2024 event.
