The iPhone 15 series is set to launch on September 12 at an event called ‘Wonderlust’ in California’s Apple Park. This event will be streamed live on apple.com and the Apple TV app starting at 10 AM local time. The iPhone 15 lineup includes four models: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Now, here’s the exciting part for Indian customers. Reports suggest that the iPhone 15 models will be available in India either on the same day as the global launch or shortly thereafter. This quick availability is due to the Indian government’s efforts to boost electronics manufacturing in the country. They are offering incentives to mobile, laptop, and semiconductor manufacturers, which not only contributes to India’s economic growth but also generates job opportunities in the production and distribution sectors.
According to an Economic Times report, the iPhone 15 models that are made under the “Make in India” initiative may hit the market around the same time as their global release. These units are expected to be manufactured in the Foxconn factory located in Chennai.
Last year, with the launch of the iPhone 14, the “Made in India” units became available within just 10 days of the global launch. This year, Apple aims to reduce the time even further, if not eliminate it entirely. The plan is for the Chennai-based Foxconn manufacturing unit to cater to the local Indian market first and then consider exporting the devices.
It’s worth noting that the Indian government has recently imposed restrictions on the import of various electronic items like laptops, tablets, and personal computers. Originally set to take effect in the first week of August, the restrictions have now been postponed by three months. Starting from November 1, certain electronic items will require clearance for import into India.
